As a customer, you want to get in and get out. Find the the line that you think will check out the fastest. However, its not an easy choice as it may seem. Do you go with the young looking guy with a lot of energy who appears to be fast or the older lady with the wrist brace?
I see an girl with a hand basket of little things like toothpaste, brownie mix, gum, and a bottle of sparkling water. There’s only two checkstands open this late and each line is about 3-4 people deep; she’s pacing back and forth deciding which line to go into. Does she go to Debra, who’s in her 50′s with curly red hair that wears colorful earrings but uses a wrist brace or the young guy, who wears a shirt and tie that appears to know what he’s doing. She proceeds to do this several times until she makes eye contact with me; I can see it in her eyes as she’s unloading that I’m the right choice. I’m young with a lot of energy, but because of that energy, I’m a talker… I talk waaay too much.
Me: Hey! Did you find everything alright? Pabst Blue Ribbon and vanilla ice cream? Are you making Pabst float? Is that good?
Little does she know Debra is a 20-year veteran and is a two-time defending champion of the Best Bagger Championships. She’s always in the express line, who is by far the fastest checker in the store and liked by all customers.
She’s pouting under her breath as she realized she’s made the wrong choice. Meanwhile…
Me: Isn’t it bitter? Maybe if you get rocky road or something it might add more flavor to it. Oh wait it has nuts!
