Like many states, Oregon drivers are not allowed to text or have phone conversations without the use of hands-free headsets. This law went into effect on January 1, 2009. However, some Oregon motorist are unaware of this law…
A girl is talking on the phone while standing in CD the Supervisors line. I’m in checkstand behind CD and even I can hear her conversation. She’s talking about the ticket she’d received for texting while driving.
Textaholic: [on the phone] I got this stupid ticket for talking on the phone while driving!
[register] beep, beep, beep…
Textaholic: I can’t pay for this! I might as well spend a few nights in jail!
She’s oblivious to the lines building up and she’s talking loud enough for everyone to hear…
Textaholic: I didn’t even know there was such a law! There’s no billboards! I never saw any!
Then one of the customers behind her says…
Just in Line: YOU KNOW WHY YOU DIDN’T SEE ANY SIGNS? IT’S BECAUSE YOUR TOO BUSY TEXTING!
Any annoying conversations in your line?

I feel you here man…They dont realize how dangerous that is…
What annoys me is the customers ahead of me who can’t find their money for several minutes.
Secretia
In a local food joint, I actually watched while a big dork directly in front of me in line was so in to his cell phone conversation that he ignored the women trying to take his order—twice. She moved on to me, I started giving her my order, and at this point, he gave me a nasty look and started giving his order—on top of mine. The poor lady behind the counter just went back to him in an effort to avoid a conflict. What a jerk.
I’m actually pretty sure that texting is MORE dangerous than talking on the phone. You have to look at the screen, find the right key, it’s a whole process. Sigh. People.
Love the other customer’s comment. Texting just became illegal in this state, but talking on a cell phone is still legal. I hope that changes.
Texting is the bane of my existence. I hate it. I’m so glad those laws are spreading, but disappointed that people continue to ignore them. They just don’t ask themselves whether its even work getting a ticket or being in an accident just to continue a conversation that could quite possibly be saved for a later date.
I also don’t like it when people talk loudly enough for everyone else to hear their conversations. (I know, I’m picky.)
Texting and talking too loudly….hmm. Starting to see a pattern with phones?
Texting while driving is banned if you are driving a state vehicle, but they have yet to pass the law, which they are currently drafting, to ban it for all drivers. I text when in traffic jams and at traffic lights, but I limit myself to those only, phone immediately goes back into the seat before my foot goes on accelerator. I am Wicked, not stupid.
As for annoying conversations. Too many to recount.
That sounds about right. I don’t know why anyone would need a sign to say its wrong as it seems like common sense you can’t text and drive properly.
Kinda hard to read the signs if you’re texting!
our state totally needs this law. damn!
i’ve seen some crazy shit over the years from road tripping to and fro. people read books while they’re driving, they eat, smoke and talk on their cellphone simultaneously, and my favorite… (i’m sure he wasn’t actually…) NAPPING while driving. dude had his seat all the way back and his mouth was hanging open like he was on autopilot. :/ scary folks. drive your damn cars!
Yah, talking on the cell while driving in CA has been illegal since last year, but I still see so many people do it! And nothing is more annoying than listening to someone else’s one sided convo.
HA! I’m so glad that someone spoke up! Durr.
I stand by my declaration that everyone needs to take a basic decency class before graduating high school. Lessons should include not talking on your cell phone at ANY register, not texting while driving, not spitting in public, and saying thank you when someone holds a door for you.
