Beer Fear

WENATCHEE — Police responded in force to Albertsons grocery store Tuesday evening and arrested a man who threatened to shoot a store clerk if store personnel didn’t sell him beer.

According to one of approximately five Wenatchee police officers at the scene, the man, who was intoxicated but unarmed, became belligerent when store staff refused the sale.

The incident occurred at approximately 6 p.m. No one was injured, police said.

    This sounds like something that would happen at my store. Just tonight while I was working this guy starts throwing things and screaming the F-bomb down an aisle. As soon as he got to the front end he walks up to my manager and goes, “DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM?! Every time I come in here I feel like you all are watching me! I’m allowed to come in here without being harassed!” Background story: the guy’s weird, and super sketchy and used to solicit outside our store until he was kicked out for being verbally aggressive with customers and has been asked to leave the store on a number of occasions. Tonight though, none of us had any idea he was even in the store, let alone watching or harassing him.
    He ended up exchanging some heated words with our loss prevention guy before leaving. I was positive he was going to come back with a weapon of some sort. Luckily, he hadn’t come back by the time I got off… but it’s scary when customers go from being annoying to just downright crazy.

    Ha, I love the concept of being plastered by 6 pm on a Tuesday!
    That’s as great a way to spend a vacation day as any I can think of…assuming he was employed :)

    Holy shit! Seriously!? What is wrong with people? Clearly someone did not plan ahead! You can’t buy beer in a lot of places on Sunday. Here you have to wait until after noon. Ruh-LAX dude! And get a Day Timer! Jeez!

    I tried to buy beer on a Sunday morning one at 4am and when they refused, because of local ordinance I was so mad, but they calmed me down. Then I saw a man steal a case of beer and run out the door with it after he was refused. Amazing!
