Diva Courtesy Clerk

by PkWynn on April 27, 2010

Have you ever worked with someone who doesn’t want to work? Frustrating isn’t it? I especially dislike the ones that don’t take the initiative to their daily tasks or say, “this is not part of my job.” Seems like every month we have a new hire and the person in this story is a courtesy clerk. No matter what I asked of this courtesy clerk he refuses to do anything. I couldn’t discipline the courtesy clerk because that would only leave me to do all of the remaining tasks but it didn’t matter, I ended up doing them anyhow. The courtesy clerk is no longer working for the company and although it was hard to light the fire under this courtesy clerk to work, I wish the ex courtesy clerk well.

Me: Can you dump the trash in the back?

Diva Courtesy Clerk: Why?

Me: Because I’m sure it’s full.

Diva Courtesy Clerk: Why don’t you do it?

Me: [baffled] Uhhh… cuz you’re the courtesy clerk.

Diva Courtesy Clerk: I don’t think that’s part of my job.

Me: Yes it is. Your job is to take the trash out, get the carts, clean the bathrooms, mop, etc…

Diva Courtesy Clerk: I thought all I did was bag.

Me: Yeah, amongst other things.

A few minutes go by and the courtesy clerk calls for me.

Diva Courtesy Clerk: There’s no way in hell I’m touching this. It looks nasty!

Me: Get some gloves.

Diva Courtesy Clerk: I don’t want to be touching that it’s looks hazardous!

Me: Dude, it looks like fried chicken. Just grease.

Diva Courtesy Clerk: Can I do something else instead?

Me: How about you check the bathrooms?

Diva Courtesy Clerk: I don’t want to do that either.

Me: Ugh….why?

Diva Courtesy Clerk: Because if something is wrong I have to clean it up and I don’t want to clean up after people.

Me: You certainly picked the wrong job.

Diva Courtesy Clerk: What?

Me: Nothing…

Diva Courtesy Clerk: I’m so tired. I’m ready to go to bed!

Me: Well what is it you want to do?

Diva Courtesy Clerk: I can bag up front?

Me: It’s not that busy. Why don’t you be a door greeter instead?

Diva Courtesy Clerk: [excited] You serious? I can do that!?!?!

ROFL There’s always one. My favorites are the ones who come in hung over and think they can sit in a chair and just watch other people work.

Reminds me of the time I asked a floor manager at Wal Mart why the Christmas decorations were already out in September. She must have had a bad day considering the near tongue lashing she gave me. “It’s not my job to know that, etc.”

But you know what its a pity that courtesy clerks were really treated like slaves…checkers, key carriers, csrs all wanted to be the boss and they think theyre the superior way up beyond!
Slaver brothers oops or stater bros is one example
